Recap: Roundtable luncheon and networking breakfast in Hong Kong

Digital Asset was thrilled to recently host two successful events with our customers and partners in Hong Kong. Both our luncheon and networking breakfast were attended by industry leaders and provided a platform for thought-provoking discussions on market trends we’re observing globally and how distributed ledger technology (DLT) is transforming asset issuance and securities financing in particular.

Our luncheon on asset issuance was attended by leaders in finance and featured Kenneth Hui, Executive Director of Market Development at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), who delivered keynote remarks on how DLT is transforming capital markets and expanding payment means. Kelly Mathieson, Digital Asset’s Chief Business Development Officer, shared customer use cases where DLT is being utilized to address common industry challenges. Our attendees discussed further usage of DLT in payments and how to drive wider adoption of tokenized asset issuances.

Over 30 industry leaders then joined us at our Hong Kong office for a networking breakfast on securities financing, where Kelly Mathieson hosted a discussion with Kurt Eldridge, Head of Sales at Broadridge, and Andy McCardle, Director and Head of Asia at EquiLend. The panel delved into a discussion on the challenges of securities financing transactions, which typically involve multiple entities, each using different systems and data. This results in constant reconciliation—a time-consuming and costly process.

Our guests highlighted how DLT—and its inherent scalability—is perfectly suited to addressing this industry challenge. By providing a golden source of truth across all parties, DLT can eliminate manual and duplicate bookings, reduce reconciliations, and improve risk calculations. This not only improves operational efficiencies, but also enhances the lendability of assets on balance sheets and reduces securities limitations.

It's no surprise that banks embarking on digital transformation journeys are keen to leverage new technologies like DLT to improve operational efficiencies, reduce risk, and extend collateral liquidity. The technology’s potential to transform the financial industry is significant, and Digital Asset is committed to leading the way by providing a platform for industry leaders to explore and discuss implementation.

We’re grateful to our guests for participating and helping to make these events successful. We hope to see you at future Digital Asset events where we can continue to explore opportunities to reimagine existing siloed market services as interconnected digital ecosystems. In the meantime, explore more on how DLT is helping reimagine securities finance in the detailed factsheet below.
